Published Mon, 25 Nov 2024 01:09:56 GMT
Before opening G-Mama’s Halal Indian Food, Purnima Kalra had a feeling, call it a premonition, that notoriety would be hers. But it’s not what you think. There was no fortune or red carpet in these visions.“I used to pray that I would find a small kitchen where I could stand and cook and give food to people,” says Kalra, sitting at one of the three tables in her tiny take-out joint located at 480 San Ramon Valley Blvd., on the outskirts of downtown Danville.Kalra, who is the chef and owner, opened the restaurant in 2020 at the height of the pandemic and quickly earned a reputation as the biryani whisperer. G-Mama, as her grandchildren call her, firmly guards her recipes, but we know that she peels her own garlic, blends her own spices and loads her massive and aromatic basmati rice dishes with caramelized onions, a flurry of fresh parsley and a generous amount of tender, slow-cooked meat. No skimping here.“That bugs me, when you are looking for the meat...Bay Area Storms: Another Tuesday blitz — rain, winds, cold expected
Published Mon, 25 Nov 2024 01:09:56 GMT
As another Tuesday approached, so, too, did another foreboding storm, promising at least some of the same menace as the two previous ones to whip through the region.By now, all that’s needed is the theme music from “Jaws.”“We’re gonna see the winds increase,” National Weather Service meteorologist Rick Canepa said Monday afternoon. “We’re gonna see more rain. It’s going to be cold. And you’re going to see it along all the coastal sections from Sonoma County all the way down to Monterey County, into the Santa Cruz Mountains and along the East Bay Hills.“All of the locations in the region will see similar conditions.”And so it goes. Lately, if it’s Tuesday, a nasty weather system is swallowing the region. On March 21, a furious atmospheric river storm clobbered the Bay Area, ushered in 70 mph winds and killed five people. On March 14, winds hit nearly 100 mph. Both of those storms left trees down, thousands o...Race for the West: Warriors can’t capitalize on Mavs’ slide, Lakers’ loss in LeBron return
Published Mon, 25 Nov 2024 01:09:56 GMT
There are many reasons why the Warriors’ stunning collapse against the Timberwolves on Sunday night stung. But perhaps the biggest? It was a major opportunity to create separation in the West and avoid the play-in games.Golden State currently sits in sixth place in the West at 39-37 with six games left in their regular season. Because of last night’s 99-96 loss to Minnesota, the Timberwolves are only half a game behind the Warriors, with a 38-37 record and one additional game left to play.Sunday looked to be a day that set up perfectly for Golden State. The Dallas Mavericks lost in Charlotte to fall to 36-39 and crash into 11th place, even with both Kyrie Irving and Luka Dončić playing. The Los Angeles Lakers got LeBron James back but dropped a home game to the Chicago Bulls, falling to 37-38 and a tie for ninth place with Oklahoma City.Had the Warriors won on Sunday, they would currently be tied for fourth with the Suns (39-35), slotted into the fifth seed thanks to tiebreakers. By Hanna Arhirova | Associated PressZAPORIZHZHIA, Ukraine — The U.N.’s atomic energy chief warned during a meeting Monday with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that the perilous situation at Europe’s largest nuclear plant “isn’t getting any better” as relentless fighting in the area keeps the facility at risk of a disaster. The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant’s six reactors are in shutdown and it is receiving the electricity it needs to prevent a reactor meltdown through just one remaining power line. It has on occasion had to switch to emergency diesel generators to power its essential cooling systems. In a meeting with Zelenskyy in southern Ukraine covered exclusively by The Associated Press, International Atomic Energy Agency Director-General Rafael Mariano Grossi said the situation at the plant remains tense because of the heavy military presence around it and a blackout that recently struck the facility, something that has occurred repe...Latest news
